System Requirements

Java

Requires Java 6 (> 1.6.0).

On Windows, the current build has issues with 64-bit Java. The default Java download for Windows is 32-bit, so this should not be a problem unless you specifically downloaded and installed the 64-bit version. Note that this is only for 32-bit Java, ConG runs fine on a 64-bit Windows installation.

On OS X from Leopard on, Java 6 is installed, but not enabled by default. To use Java 6 as the default, go to Utilities -> Java Preferences. Under one of the tabs you can select the default Java runtime to use.

3D Acceleration

ConG uses a 3D graphics co-processor to accelerate rendering. All computers within the last 5 years (including laptops) should come with a sufficient graphics chip to run ConG. However, running several clients on the same machine (e.g. using the Test.jar file for testing) can put strain on the integrated chips that come with lower-end machines, we recommend a desktop with a graphics card or a powerful laptop for testing purposes.

Recommended System Requirements for Server-Control Machine

By server/control machine, we refer to the single machine running the control.jar program that runs your ConG experiment.

For running up to 12 client machines:

Dual-Core CPU: 2.4 GHz
RAM: 3.9 GiB

We recommend beefing up this specifications if you require more client machines.

By client machines, we refer to the computer terminals subjects will be seated at.

Minimum System Requirements for Client Machines

RAM: 512 MB
